My Story

It was the beginning of the year 1997 when I decided to retry passing my 2nd B.Sc. paramedical course in Speech and Hearing with a lot of planning when I got kicked off Mount Everest- so to say!!! My ignorant mother had felt intimidated all along because I questioned her regarding why she had grossly underprivileged me - her girl child, whereas she had given my brother a very special-warm upbringing. A rift had been created between me and my mother by my sadist brother who was exceedingly manipulative, horribly patriarchal and whose role model was Adolf Hitler. WHEN I PROTESTED against injustice, I was locked up at home without being sent to college for a whole year [when I desperately desired to study] based on the very wrong advice given to my mother by two so-called psychologists and a psychiatrist who knew nothing about mental health or my condition specifically.

I became chronically symptomatic due to incarceration for a whole year and decided to launch my fight for recovery. I challenged my psychiatrist and told her I wasn't a 'medical failure'. I said I would come back as a Women's Mental Health Specialist in exactly 10 years' time with a Bachelors, Masters and a PhD in Women's Mental Health and propound a new way to heal women with mental health issues instead of keeping them in sickness mode. In exactly 10 years I won the challenge.
I had converted both my psychiatrist and my mother into my greatest supporters. My fight was their fight and my victory became their greatest victory. I became India's First Recovery Specialist with a PhD in Women's Mental Health.
